Inspired by splotch, the original idea was to build a dinner table based on this shape. However, the scale model of the table gave me the idea to make a jewelry box. The table was never constructed.
Contructed from aircraft grade, 0.8mm, 3-layer finish baltic birch plywood, moulded around a mdf former and bonded with West epoxy. Because it was difficult to clamp any great length of plywood at any one time, the box was made in lengths approximately 60 cm in length, depending on the bends. Six or seven layers gave sufficient rigidity to the structure. Base is 3mm ply.
Sanded smooth the box was sprayed in an antique white acryclic and given a satin clear finish.
Lids are walnut burl laminated to mahogany. Hours to complete, approximately 60 hours. Approximate size: width 38cm, height: 8cm.
